Deb Dolph-Campbell and
Brent Campbell
...were
customers of The Sports Station Bar & Grill, long before it WAS the
Sports Station and long before meeting each
other. Deb remembers, "Daddy brought me in to shoot
pool when I was a kid and it was just a pool hall." She worked in the kitchen as
a teenager and later as a bartender before moving on to an office
position. Her son, Michael, worked in the kitchen during his teen years.
Brent, the "newcomer," only
joined the group 18 years ago. He and Debbie hadn't met until Brent's
roommates, who also knew Deb, kept pushing to get them together.
Their first date was simply to get the would-be cupids off their
backs. Three months later, they moved in together and were married
in 1996.
When Lowry Air Force Base
closed, the owners at that time decided they wanted out of the business
and almost on a fluke, Deb and Brent decided to buy it. They worked
hard to bring back the original friendly atmosphere and family
environment, succeeding beautifully! Customers who had given up on
the place began coming back! Now, with a diverse crowd, young and
old, every economic background, every culture, the Sports Station
is, once again, the friendliest bar in Aurora, Colorado.
The Sports Station
is located in an older Aurora area. People stumble on the
bar unexpectedly and return time and again, becoming "regulars" in
no time. People like Deb, who came to the restaurant as children,
now bring their own families for dinner or an afternoon of pool.
Thanks to Deb and Brent, The Sports Station has reclaimed its
standing as a neighborhood institution.
